Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It covers a land area of 620 km² (385 mi²) and has an estimated population of 160,000. Its capital is Castries. The island nation has been the home of two Nobel laureates, Arthur Lewis and Derek Walcott.

Hotels and lodging[]
Saint Lucia offer accommodation to suit every taste, from budget lodging that can found in Castries, a cruise ship port and the island's tourism center, to the wild east coast of the island that looks on to open Atlantic Ocean.
Many travelers prefer the more sheltered east coast of Saint Lucia. The landscape is dominated by the two towering Twin Piton peaks, preserved as a UNESCO heritage reserve. The twin volcanic spires loom over the azure Caribbean below, and many hotels take advantage of the wonderful white sand beaches and palm forests along the shore.
Many hotels also take advantage of the natural environment to create unforgettable experiences for visitors. Some resorts are built right into the hillside and feature "open walls" - suites that are open to the elements with panoramic views of the Caribbean as well as the forest below. The scent of hibiscus and other tropical flowers floats in, a perfect souvenir preserved in memory for all time. St Lucia weddings are gaining popularity, as is the concept of a St Lucia honeymoon .
Ladera St Lucia is a popular hotel in the Soufriere region.
