Bogotá—officially named Bogotá, D.C.—is the capital of Colombia, as well as the largest and most populous city in the country with 7,185,889 inhabitants (2005 estimate). It is also the capital of the department of Cundinamarca. The officially defined metropolitan area, which includes the municipality of Soacha, has an estimated population of 7,594,000 (as of 2005).
